We are often asked “what items are needed to most?” This answer can change from day to day, but here are few of the staples that we use daily here at the Humane Society of Elkhart County. For a little trivia, on a daily basis we feed over 100 lbs of dog food and 55 lbs of cat food and we wash 10-15 commercial loads of laundry. On a weekly basis we use over 16 gallons of bleach as a disinfectant around the shelter and we average $350 in gasoline to respond to animal control calls in our community.
As we enter the final months of 2014 we are seeing our funds for spays and neuters running low. With the help of grants and generous donations, we have been spaying and neutering as many cats and dogs before they are adopted and sent to their forever homes. This is a program we want to continue. To donate cash, please visit our donation page by clicking here. Donated supplies can be dropped off at the shelter during regular business hours. Monday – Thursday 9:00 am – 6:00 pm, Friday 9:00 am – 5:00 pm and Saturday 9:00 am – 4:00 pm.
We are always looking for new volunteers with all kinds of talents and skills that can spare a few hours to help out. (To learn more, click here.)
