Anne Reel, Executive Director

AnneAnne Reel, an Elkhart resident, started with the Humane Society of Elkhart
County in February of 2009.  With over 30 years of non-profit managerial experience, Anne provides the professional leadership to support fund development, strategic planning, staff and volunteer management, community outreach and collaborations, government relations and marketing and education efforts.

In 2010, the Humane Society provided services that impacted over 12,000 animals. Of that figure, over 6,500 animals were actually brought into the shelter.

The Humane Society remains committed to being an advocate to ensure animal welfare issues are addressed.  Reel states, “It is our intent to ensure the public is aware of inhumane treatment of animals and how we can partner to address animal neglect and abuse.  Additionally, we want to explore ways to expand education regarding the importance of spay and neutering of pets and creating venues to support these initiatives.”

“It takes team work and partnership to make a difference. We continue to appreciate and value those individuals and groups that have stepped up to lend a hand and look forward to those who have yet to venture forth on behalf of animals.”

Rachel Dennis, Assistant Director

Rachel became involved with the Humane Society after adopting her 2 dogs from the shelter. After that, she knew that helping the animals at the Humane Society was her passion. She served as Secretary to the Board of the Humane Society for 3 years and joined the Humane Society in August 2008.

Rachel is in charge of shelter operations and volunteer management. She's currently serving on several committees for Marketing and Volunteering to strengthen these areas of the shelter. She also manages the Humane Society website, Facebook, Twitter and Blog page and is also in the process of looking at programs that will benefit the shelter and the community.

Rachel earned her Associate of Applied Science Degree in Business Management from Davenport University in 2005. She is a 2006 Leadership Academy graduate for the Elkhart Chamber of Commerce and has completed both the Shelter Operations School and Shelter Operations School for Managers.
