On September 23rd, 270 humans along with 135 of their furry friends participated in the 2nd annual “Paws for a Cause” 5K and 1 Mile “Strut Your Mutt”. The sun was shining and the heat was on but all of the pups and their owners completed the course in support of the Humane Society of Elkhart County!
This event supports the vitally important daily operations of the shelter and this year we were thankful to raise $29,000. These funds will assist us in caring for the nearly 4,400 animals that are admitted to the shelter on an annual basis.
This event would not be possible without your generous contributions and support! Thank you to all of our sponsors, especially our top sponsors: Bob & Amy Martin; Welch Packaging; DJ Construction; Chris & Shawn Hermon; ABC 57 News; Martin’s Supermarkets; Pet Supplies Plus and Watkins Family Dentistry.
A huge thank you also goes out to our planning committee: Jordan & Aimee Rhude; Diane Martin; Eileen Misener; Janet Graham; Anne Reel and Lana Davis; along with our race directors, Alex Antoniu and David Gilbert of Tri Michiana. Thank you also to our vendors that weathered the hot day in support of our cause.
Finally, we would like to thank our amazing group of volunteers, too numerous to mention by name, who continue to be instrumental in the success of our agency.
Please remember that the Humane Society of Elkhart County is a local organization that is dedicated to promoting respect and responsibility for all animals and to the prevention of suffering and neglect through education, public service and adoption. We are truly the “voice for the voiceless”.
